Activity description: The Music Department of the National Library of the Czech Republic is one of the leading specialised departments of its kind in the Czech Republic. It started its independent activity within the library in 1923 thanks to its founder, the composer Ladislav Vycpálek.
The activities of the department are focused on collecting, replenishing, processing and systematically making available the collection of sheet music, publications on music and other special materials, with special attention to materials of a bohemian nature.
The Music Department serves as a Czech centre for important areas of international research in the field of music librarianship and music documentation.
